Isbrand W. Friesen, church leader and pioneer, was born in Manitoba in 1897. He was the fifth of 13 children born to Heinrich and Katharina (nee Wiebe) Friesen. He was baptized on May 19, 1918 and became a member of the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. On November 6, 1919 he married Aganetha Hildebrand and together they had four children, two girls and two boys. Friesen was elected to the ministry in January 1937 and ordained by Aeltester Peter A. Toews on February 12, 1939. In 1946 he was attending monthly Chortitza Ministerial meetings and in 1948 he left Canada for the Sommerfeld Colony in Paraguay, South America. Friesen was ordained as Aeltester on June 1, 1948 by Aeltester David Dirksen. Little is known about his life after he moved to Paraguay.
This fonds contains four sermons. One was written to be preached for the sick.
